About All Electric

Story of All Electric Garages
In 1917, the "All Electric Garage" became the first garage in England equipped with electric petrol pumps.
Fifty years later, in 1967, John Leek, our chairman, invested in our first garage located in Greenfield Road, Harborne.
In 1968, our second site opened opposite the original "All Electric Garage," marking the country’s first self-service petrol station — hence our name!

Growth Through Innovation
John’s background as a trainee mechanic with Evans and Kitchen in Birmingham gave him engineering qualifications and first-hand selling experience across brands such as NSU, Skoda, BMW, Volvo, and SAAB.
It was no surprise when he began multi-franchising with Triumph and MG during All Electric's early years, becoming the first dealership in the Midlands to operate a multi-franchise service.
This trend continued organically through the 70s, 80s, and 90s, resulting in a fourteen-garage operation selling Volvo, Mazda, Hyundai, Austin Rover, Morris, Skoda, Citroen, Peugeot, Suzuki, Chrysler Jeep, TVR, and many others.

A Legacy of Resilience
At its peak, All Electric employed nearly 300 people.
Despite economic downturns affecting the motor-trade industry, the business navigated these challenges through shrewd property decisions.
Today, All Electric still employs over 100 colleagues and has adapted to the digital era — focusing less on large showrooms and more on online sales, where business is more accessible and prices are competitive.
