What's Hyundai Motability Scheme?

Motability is a national charity set up at the initiative of the Government, with all party support, in 1977 and incorporated by Royal Charter. All Electric Garages, Skoda, Hyundai and Citroen are proud to support the Motability Scheme.

About Motability

Our objective is to help disabled people with their personal mobility. Since the first cars were delivered in 1978, we have provided over three million cars, scooters and powered wheelchairs. Today, over 600,000 disabled people and their families enjoy the benefits that the Motability Scheme offers.

Our areas of responsibility include:

We direct and oversee the Motability Scheme which includes the Car Scheme and the Powered Wheelchair and Scooter Scheme;

We manage the Government’s Specialised Vehicles Fund, specifically to help people who need a heavily adapted car;

We raise money for our own Charitable Grants Programme to provide additional financial help to those people whose allowance does not cover the cost of the mobility solution they need.

About Motability Operations

Motability OperationsOpens in new window is a not-for-profit company responsible for the finance, administration and maintenance of Motability cars, scooters and powered wheelchairs. When you lease a vehicle through Motability, all or part of your mobility allowance is paid directly to Motability Operations for the length of the agreement.

About the Motability Scheme

Disabled people are able to use their government-funded mobility allowances to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair on the Motability Scheme. This gives them the freedom to get to work or college, meet up with friends, enjoy a day trip out with their families, attend a medical appointment, or go shopping; to enjoy the independence that so many of us take for granted.
